At the office, you’ll have time to reorganize your belongings and pack only the essentials for your stay at the Lodge in the Tambopata National Reserve.
River Journey and Jungle Walk
  • Next, we’ll head to the embarkation point on the Madre de Dios River, where we’ll board a motorized canoe for a 45-minute ride, enjoying the beautiful scenery and spotting wildlife such as turtles and caimans along the riverbanks.
  • After disembarking, we’ll set off on a one-hour walk through the forest, where you might encounter capuchin monkeys, giant trees, and squirrel monkeys. Howler monkeys may also be seen high in the trees, while butterflies flutter along the path, and the calls of macaws echo from the palm forest.

Moving quietly across the water, we’ll search for a family of giant river otters and enjoy birdwatching, spotting fascinating species such as the Agami heron, Puma heron, hoatzins, along with monkeys and black caimans.
  • At this early hour, only the lake’s residents venture out to observe wildlife, making the experience nearly exclusive to guests staying at lodges along the lake’s edge—a unique opportunity to connect with nature in peace and tranquility.
  • We’ll return to the lodge, where our welcoming hosts will greet us with a hearty breakfast and fresh coffee to start the morning.
  • After breakfast, we’ll pack our belongings and prepare for the journey back. Traveling across the lake and following the trail to the river, a boat will be waiting to take us to Puerto Maldonado.
  • Once there, a taxi will be ready to transfer you to the airport in time for your flight.
