Overview
During this nature tour, you will venture into the core of the Tambopata National Reserve situated in the untouched Amazon rainforest. Our guides are extensively trained in this region and specialize in spotting the most remarkable species during jungle hikes and throughout your entire journey in Tambopata.
On our first day, we will navigate the Madre de Dios River for about 35 minutes before arriving at Sandoval Lake. Through the jungle, we will search for animals seeking refuge near the lake. Along the shores, we will observe caimans, turtles, and giant otters as We paddle across the lake’s waters. The view of the lake is majestic and magnificent. We’ll stay there until lunchtime before returning to Puerto Maldonado for our adventure on the Tambopata River.
We arrive at Hacienda Tambopata Lodge as the sun sets. Later that evening, we venture into the forest for a nocturnal hike with flashlights, observing creatures such as insects, frogs, lizards, spiders, tarantulas, and other creatures that only come out after dark. Finally, we retire for the night back at Hacienda Tambopata Lodge.
On the second day, wake up early and take a boat ride upriver on the Tambopata. Look for capybaras and caimans along the riverbanks. When we enter the Tambopata Reserve, we will see new species. We reach the biggest clay lick for macaws and parrots in Tambopata. Near the river, the clay cliffs are often dotted with these birds. We set up the breakfast to enjoy it while watching the show. We head back to the boat once the activity is over, while the birds scatter in different directions. We make our way back to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, we will visit the Santa Teresa community and go to Lake Yacumama. There, we can enjoy a canoeing tour and try fishing for piranhas in the lake. Search for caimans with flashlights after the sun sets and spot their eyes glowing in the dark.
After finishing our activities, we head back to the lodge for dinner.

On the third day, we have breakfast by the lake. Then we pack our bags and head to the airport for our departure.
