Itinerary – 3-Day Lake Sandoval Tour (3 Days / 2 Nights)

Day 1 – Start of the 3-Day Lake Sandoval Tour

Meet your guide in Puerto Maldonado and board a motorized canoe (~45 min) along the Madre de Dios River to the Lake Sandoval trail. A 3 km hike crosses primary and secondary forest to the paddle-canoe station. Expect herons, kingfishers, anhingas and river turtles. After check-in and an introductory forest walk, head out after dinner for a black caiman night search.

Day 2 – Sunrise Canoe, Otters & Birding, Brazil-Nut Trail & Giant Trees

At dawn, glide across calm waters during the prime window for giant river otters. After breakfast, explore the Brazil-nut trail and learn about traditional harvesting and forest ecology. Rest after lunch, then a second walk to see giant ceibas and ironwood trees, orchids and leaf-cutter ant columns. Lake sunset and dinner at the lodge.

Day 3 – Sunrise Canoe, Canopy Viewpoint & Return

Another early canoe outing to maximize wildlife and soft light. Weather permitting, visit a canopy viewpoint for panoramic forest vistas and macaw/toucan flyovers. Return by canoe and hike, then motorized boat back to Puerto Maldonado by late morning or early afternoon.

Order of activities may vary due to weather, river levels or logistics while maintaining safety and the complete program.
